There are a lot of details on the army careers of our ancestors (countries visited, wounds received during the battles,..), on their physique (height, eyes colour,..), how they lived in 1857 (income, poverty,..) their health, their family situation, their feelings about the events in which they have participated..

 Haut de page    Examples of what we can learn:

    * AUBERLET Nicolas, demeurant à Voyer (Meurthe), né le 02/08/1793 à Voyer, a combattu dans le 23e de ligne 1er bt 1ere cie des grenadiers dans la période 1812-1815, il était le fils de Pierre et de LIPLEURT Anne Marie, il a été blessé à Waterloo (la jambe gauche traversée par une balle et la main droite par un biscaën à Sarrebourg)

   * POIRSON Aristide demeurant à Tremblecourt (Meurthe), né le 16/12/1793 à Tremblecourt, actuellement juge de paix, est entré au service en 1812 au 1er bataillon des mineurs de génie, nommé garde du génie le 1er novembre 1813. Il a fait les campagnes de 1814, était à Neufbrisach, a démissionné le 1er novembre après le départ de l'Empereur pour l'île d'Elbe. Il a repris du service au retour de l'Empereur fin mars 1815 et a été compris parmi les anciens officiers de l'Empire, commandant les forces de la Meurthe, Meuse, Moselle et Vosges par décret du 22/04/1815. A été nommé successivement sous-lieutenant, lieutenant, adjudant major par commission du 07/06 après Waterloo. Son corps a chassé les troupes qui assiégaient Longwy, pris 700 à 800 prisonniers et une partie de leur matériel. Au retour de Louis XVIII, son corps a été licencié avec l'armée de la Loire après la liquidation du traitement des officiers.

Visit your archives and find out which information exists.

1) Are these documents available or not ?
2) Find the exact classification of the documents which concern this medal, this will normally be an M-prefix in the honorary distinctions, but might also be an R-prefix in the military archives.
3) Scan the lists to tell us if there are approximately 500 or 5000 medals listed.
Promote this project to your friends and find someone that is interested in helping us to make the transcription
4) Send us the information you have found, it will be published on this website.
